A Weekend Away (with my Mum)

I have so so so many posts to catch you up on but this is the first on my list for  two reasons really.  Firstly because I have a great Mum (note:  we drive each other crazy at times but I love her to bits!!) and secondly because it involves my all time favorite musical Mary Poppins! Oh and maybe a third because there was an indulgent chocolate high tea involved!  Oh and a forth….. shopping without small children!

You know I can’t even remember when this was so I will just say a few months back Mum and I said “cheerio” to our husbands and to my little one and headed into the big smoke (Brisbane hahaha). We booked into the Stamford Plaza…..

 put on our fancy clothes……..

and headed out to see Mary Poppin’s at the Lyric Theatre (for the second time).  Here is a preview of the show…….

Absolutely SUPERCALIFRAGILISTIC!!!  It took by breath away again.  We had great seats in the third row!! We could even see the orchestra…..

I find the Mary Poppins story magical.  I love the wonderful childhood memories.  I love the notion that ‘anything can happen if you let it’ and I seriously adore the song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!! I am also a bit taken with Matt Lee’s character Bert.  I loved sharing it with my Mum as well xo.

The show is no longer on in Brisbane.  It has moved to Perth.  I am hoping that Andrew needs to travel to Perth on business soon so I can tag along with the hidden agenda to go to the theatre again!!  It really is that good!!! I did purchase the CD of the show.  Andrew has been in all kinds of pain when he gets into my car.  His not a fan of Mary Poppins music.  But Ben and I love sing and dance along to Mary in the car…. love ya Ben xoxo. Ben took the Mary Poppins CD to Kindy for show and tell.  His teacher played  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious for the children to listen to.  Apparently Ben was getting upset with the children for not singing along.  You know cose everyone (especially 4 & 5 year olds) know the words to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious……… don’t they???  Bless him xoxo

After the show Mum and I headed back to the hotel for some room service and sleep.  We had a big day  to look forward to.  Apparently I snored and Mum didn’t get much sleep……. I don’t think so.  I think it was Mum waking herself up with her own snoring (hahahhahhaha!).  Anywho…… we both were a little tired the next morning.

But this did not stop us from shopping (well it might of slowed us down a little).  We shopped and had the most wonderful afternoon tea.  If you are local we totally recommend the indulgent chocolate high tea at the Stamford…..YUMMO!

Thanks Mum for a great weekend.  It was ……..

‘Ministry of Food is about getting people cooking again by teaching them the basics: how to cook, how to shop, and how to enjoy food in a way that benefits not only individuals, but also their families. We want to give as many people as possible the tools and information they need to be able to make better food choices.’

I am getting very excited! This weekend Andrew and I start our ten weeks of cooking classes at the Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Ipswich.  I jumped at the opportunity to take part.  Anything that helps a Mum provide quick, easy and most importantly healthy  meals for her family is very exciting.  I was in the hairdressers yesterday and some Mum’s were discussing how they become stuck for healthy meal ideas and would love some inspiration.  Well fingers crossed I have found mine….. I can’t wait.  I also would love to lose some weight.  So this is a great kick start.   And yes you did read it correctly Andrew is also attending.  It is a wonderful opportunity for him to learn to cook but I have to say I am looking forward to us doing this together.  My Mum and Dad are taking care of Ben (love them to bits!!!) while Andrew and I cook together.

Our first class is this Saturday.  We will receive a “Participant Start-Up Kit”, with a folder of recipes and information,  a  Jamie’s Ministry of Food bag and an apron.    Each week we need to take a tupperware container because each participant cooks a family meal for four to take home.

I can’t wait to let you know how it goes!!

I HEART Star Wars

Picnik collage star wars 2

It seems that lately all I blog about is Star Wars.  But that is my world right now.  From the time we get up in the morning to the time Ben goes to bed we seem to leave planet earth (in our X Wing) and head off on adventures to  the far away galaxies of Star Wars.  We meet all kinds of wonderful people and creatures.  This morning we met Jabba and Han Solo in carbonite!!  I do sometimes curse all that is Star Wars (especially when it is early morning, before coffee and Ben can’t find Anakin’s lego head!!).  But really I love it!  I love watching, discovering, exploring, imagining, dressing up and playing in the Star Wars world of a four year old.

So does that mean I am becoming ‘Strong with the Force’ ?

What Will Monday Bring?

I know it happens to every mum. I know I’ll survive.  But my little boy heads to Pre-Prep (Kindergarten) on Monday!! He will be three years and eight months old. He is my little boy but insists of telling me he is a BIG boy now!! I am excited, nervous, sad, but also happy. I pray that we have made the right choice of school, that he will make friends, that he likes his teachers, that he will find the toilet, that he will pack up, that he will use a nice voice, that he will share/take turns…….. BUT really I hope he loves it and has fun!! We have met his teachers.  We have played in his classroom.  We have practiced eating out of the lunch box. I have made the Kindy sheets (which are very cute). We have our uniform. And will do a last minute drive by on Sunday to refresh Ben’s memory. He doesn’t really say much but seems to be excited.  Here he is practicing how to eat using a lunch box.

On Monday I will wear my sunglasses and hide my tears. Better still I will try not to cry until I reach the car. I am not even sure what the tears are all about…. but I am a little emotional just writing this. I think the tears are all about …… I love my not so little boy Ben xo.

My Little Man!

Every night as I tuck Ben into bed,  I give him a kiss on his forehead and tell him I love him.  Tonight was very special.  As I tucked Ben into bed, he looked me straight in the eyes and said “Muuum… I love you”.  My eyes filled with tears as I kissed him goodnight.  It is an absolute joy to be Ben’s Mum!!

A Quiet Moment….

Today was  a testing day.  Ben tested most of his boundaries just in case they had changed.  So there was  a few tantrums when he realised that the rules hadn’t changed in his favor!  I was nearly at the end of my tether when I noticed all had gone quiet except for this little voice coming from the lounge.  Ben had curled up with his favorite books and was reading.  He was turning the pages and saying words.  My little boy is growing up and wow it is so lovely to witness.  His favorite books at the moment are Busy Railway by Rebecca Finn (he turns the pages saying ‘toot toot choo choo’).  He also enjoys Row Row Row Your Boat by Trace Moroney and Baa Baa Black Sheep by Brimax  (he says ‘Row row row’ and ‘Baa Baa’).  Some other favorites are Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, Noisey Cars by Bright Baby, Gallop by Rufus Butler Seder, Cats by Baby Einstein  and Playschool Numbers by ABC.  We have story time every night before he goes to bed.  It is my favorite part of the day.
