Santa…friend or foe?

Why do parents insist on the annual Santa photo?  Why can’t we just leave it be when your toddlers clings to you for dear life when you try and put them on Santa’s lap?  We had a few goes this year.  Thanks to Joseph, Daddy and Grandma it didnt end in tears….. just slight terror!

First attempt was with his little friend Joseph.  Joseph went first to show Ben how it was done… but he was still not that keen.

Second attempt with Daddy.  He looked ok….. but lucky we kept the glasses on you can’t see the fear in his eyes.

Third and final attempt was with Grandma.  Ben started to warm up a little… maybe we should have gone for a forth attempt?

Ben and Grandma Karen visit Santa

What did melt my heart though was every time we went to see Santa he asked Ben what he wanted for Christmas.  Ben would respond ‘Just a present’.  I had a tear every time!

There’s a bear in there…..

IMG_0567.JPGPlay School live shows are specially designed to delight children and parents alike.  Ben, Andrew, Chris, Bree, Joseph and myself recently attended a concert at Cavendish Road High School Hall.  The  show features 40 minutes of songs, games and stories with two of the TV Shows presenters (Leah and Teo) along with many of the well-loved toys.  Everything in the concerts was carefully paced especially for the little ones. There was songs to move to, as well as quiet times to just watch and listen.   Ben and Joseph just adored it.  They spent most of the time on our laps clapping and singing but did work up the courage to get up and dance.  It was fantastic – highly recommended!

Railway Workshop, Steam Train and My Friend Joseph!

Our journey with trains began with my hunt for children’s activities in Ipswich.  You would be hard pressed to find a better facility for children than the Ipswich Railway Workshops.  Ben loves it.  We have been visiting nearly every week.  There is always lots to do.  More recently we have gone with Joseph and Oliver (Ben’s friends) and their mums Bree and Emily.  The boys are always busy.

We thought we would take the boys interest one step further and take them on a train trip.  We decided on Ipswich to Indooropilly Shopping Centre.  The train trip was a success.  Ben eventually sat still and was amazed watching out the window.

More recently we went on a steam train outing from the Railway Workshops.  The journey was about one and a half hours from the workshops at North Ipswich to Ebenezer via Walloon and back again.   Grandma and Poppy came along for the ride and to help chase Ben up and down the train.  The smell, the soot and changing a nappy on a crowded 100 year old train…..  it was great but I’m not rushing back!
